I started the preschool search for Cooper today. What I am learning is that preschool and daycare seem to be one and the same, in general. That is not to say there aren't some preschools out there like we are used to in the US- I just haven't found them yet OR they are part of a private school and that means they are super expensive. That said, I am beginning my search in our general area which means a preschool program embedded in a daycare.
We visited our first location today which is about 3 blocks from our home. The place was clean, the people seemed nice and the kids looked happy and cared for. They offer a preschool "program" within the 5 year old class to prepare the kids who will be moving on to kindergarten. Coop, of course, was just in heaven being in a school-like setting and seeing all the toys and the beloved sandbox. I am so used to private schools where they "sell" the program to you that being there and having to ask all the questions and get minimal, yet acceptable answers, is foreign to me. They are currently full, well, they have one Monday opening, so it makes the decision easy. I now have a baseline to compare other preschools too. I have 3 other scheduled over the next two weeks. I am also looking into government preschools or what we would call public preschools.
Wish me luck!
LUCK!
