Next week is NAIDOC Week. Since the kids will be on school holiday for two weeks beginning Friday, many schools held a celebration this week. The children have been learning about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander's culture this term. The children performed an Aboriginal song at this morning's assembly.
Unfortunately, Coop did not seem to be singing. I think during a rehearsal, the teacher told the kindy kids to not sing and just listen while she worked with the older kids. Coop took her at her word and didn't sing then-- or today. It was still wonderful. And I am very proud of him.
Below is the video of the song the kids sang.

NAIDOC stands for the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.
NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians in various fields.
