I think the Chinese Zodiac is really interesting. I did a little reading about it yesterday so I could explain it to Cooper. This is what I learned:
* 2012 is the Year of the Dragon, more specifically the Water Dragon.
* The Chinese Calendar is based on the lunar year so the date of CNY changes each year.
* The Chinese calendar follows a 12 year pattern with each year named after a different animal. Apparently there are many stories to explain this, but the simplest is this:
Buddha (or the Jade Emperor) invited all of the animals to join him for a New Year celebration, but only 12 animals turned up. To reward the animals that did come, Buddha named a year after each of them in the order that they arrived, starting with the Rat, followed by the Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (or Sheep), Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
About the Dragon...
The Dragon is the most powerful and lucky sign in the Chinese Zodiac. People born in the year of the Dragon are blessed with good fortune. They are innovative, flexible, self-assured and passionate. They make good artists, diplomats and politicians. Dragons can also be very stubborn, intense and quick tempered. Since it is the year of the Water Dragon, the water has a calming influence on the Dragons' fearless temperament and also makes them more perceptive of others. Some famous Dragons include Sigmund Freud, Shirley Temple, John Lennon and Salvador Dali. Hmmm, I wonder who I know that is a Dragon....
A Dragon I am not...
I was born in the Year of the Dog. I am NOT compatible with the Dragon. I just read what it says about those born in the Year of the Dog and it is scarily true. I guess the Chinese have been doing this a while and know what they are talking about. :) It was fun reading about the boys. Tucker is an Ox and already I see some of the Ox personalities in him. This sentence struck me most. It is already Tucker to a t (ha!)!
Coop is a Dog like me which probably explains why we tend to butt heads with one another. This is the one sentence that stood out for me about Coop.

Not many people could equal the resolution and fearlessness the Ox exhibits when deciding to accomplish a task or an objective.

They can march in and take control of a situation, even when it doesn’t involve them directly.
If only you could see him walk into Starbucks in the morning and take control of what is happening there. He always wants to "fix" things and talk to the "person in charge." Just this week he wanted to talk to the person in charge of the Botanic Gardens about some people he saw wading in one of the fountains and he wanted to talk to the fire department about updating their trucks (??).
And you are...
So, my friends, what's your sign? :)
