Surrey Hills Library and Community Centre

Today we finally took a trip to the library. I have been trying to get there for quite some time, but something always got in the way. So today, we went. We got on the bus which happened to be the completely wrong bus, but with the help of a few nice people along the way, we made it there.  The branch we went to is in an area called, Surrey Hills.  It is a trendy area or so it seems. There were tons of shops for window shopping, quite a few independent grocery stores which are fun to visit and a plethora of restaurants.  Since we got on the wrong bus and had quite a bit of walking to do we got to have a pretty good look at the area!

Finally we made it to the library which turns out to also be a community centre (okay, had to reverse the 'e' and the "r" in that word...), daycare and a function hall as well as a library.  The building has won quite a bit of recognition for its "green-ness."  Cool fact: The building collects rainwater, treats it and re-uses it for flushing toilets and irrigation.  The building is beautiful.

We spent about an hour or so there looking at and reading books. Tucker spent the time "reading" and exploring on his own and did not want to sit to read with me. Coop and I read a few books together.  The boys then discovered some markers and we took out their notebooks they carry around and coloured for a bit.

To top it off, there was a great park across the street which was perfect for both the boys. Coop spent most of the time there on the swings. Tucker spent most of the time going up the ladder and down the ramp.  He LOVES ramps and had a blast.  Soon, they both discovered the monkey bars. Coop finally did it all by himself (phew). He has been trying for quite sometime to do and finally he did! Of course Tucker too one look at them and scaled the whole thing in about 1 minute.  This could get tricky later on.... Coop slid down the fireman's pole for the first time today as well. Big day for Coop!

After playing at the park, we decided to look for a lunch spot.  We walked and walked and finally found a burger place.  Now burgers here are NOT what they are in the States.  They are more like meatloaf and salad on a bun.  I had a chicken burger which was fine, but Tuck's burger was not very good.  On the way home we stopped at a Swiss bakery and got a treat.  Chocolate muffin for the boys to share and I got a coconut macaroon. Yummy!

When we got home Tuck went down for a nap and Coop and I did some cleaning around the apartment. Coop's new favourite job?  Using the squeegee!
