A Week or So Later...

We have now been in the new place just about a week. The cable television was “installed” today.  I had forgotten about what it is like to watch tv! In all the apartments we have stayed in so far the tv reception has been so terrible that I did not even bother watching it.  But today, I saw real tv for the first time in a long time and it was like hanging out with an old friend. :) Unfortunately since we have an American tv connected in Australia there is a strange humming sound that accompanies all the shows. For now we will deal with it and maybe down the road we will purchase an Australian tv.
Getting internet connected here is a pain in the you-know-what.  I heard stories about Telstra- the big company here- how they do not know which way is up etc. Well, I must have talked to 15 different people, faxed paperwork, called different numbers and even had Doug contact them and still a week later- no internet.  Today they finally came and checked the lines and now I was told that we have to wait 4 more days for the internet to be connected.  Not sure why it takes so long. I am so anxious to be back in touch with everyone!
The “removalists” came by and took away the last of the boxes and things for storage. It is nice not to have all that cardboard laying around.  Doesn’t “removalists” sound like some bad movie with lots of guns?
The other “big event” is Manzie. Manzie has been sick for going on three days now. I will not share too much information, but let’s just say she has needed a lot of “bathroom time” which involves me following her around with a washcloth and strategically placing pee pads around the apartment. Finally, took her in to be check this morning (thank you, Kate). The very dull, boring and unimpressive vet gave us some meds for her which will hopefully kick in soon so I do not have to get up with her every hour tonight…. Oh, and for those of you who are wondering- no dogs on trains or buses, but you can have them in some taxis- it is up to the driver.  The dogs have to be in a carrying case of some kind. Would have been really nice to know that after the thirtieth empty cab rejected us because we had a dog on a leash.  I almost cried right there and thought we would never make it back home.
Tofie is doing pretty well. She is still looking at me like, “You aren’t ditching us again are you?” every time we head out.  She is sleeping like a rock at night. I do not think she slept well at quarantine at all.  Sadly, she has pretty much lost all use of you hind legs and drags them around. Thankfully, the whole apartment is carpeted so she can get around, but she is already getting rug burns on her little legs. It is truly heartbreaking.  I can only hope her wheelchair shows up somewhere so at least she has that…
