The Powerhouse Museum

Today's adventure was to the Powerhouse Museum of Science and Design.  It is called the Powerhouse Museum because it is housed in an old electric tram powerhouse.  We were lucky to have our new friends join us for this adventure.  The 5 of us began the morning- where? Of course, Starbucks then we took the bus to the museum.

It is a beautiful museum in a great location.  The big, temporary visit is the ABBA exhibit.  After purchasing our tickets, we had our photos taken which were then superimposed on one of the members of the band.  We did not end up going to see the exhibit due to two tired and crabby little Whittles.  Our friends stayed around after we left so we are looking forward to seeing what it was like.

Anyway, the museum was so totally perfect for kids and especially little boys. They had old locomotives, airplanes, old cars and futuristic cars, a space exhibit complete with a pseudo-zero gravity room and satellites.  There were also exhibits about robotics, recycling and sustainability.  There was a lot more to see, but with 4 kids all under the age of 7 you really get a whirl-wind tour!  Thankfully, there was a outdoor playground where we spent a good deal of time playing.  The only bummer about the playground was that the equipment there is that same horrible equipment that is all over Tacoma! Argh!

The kids had a great time and it is definitely a place to visit again.

A Big Day For Coop

Today was a really big day for Coop. First and this one is not so good, but Tofie bit his ear!  That was total and complete betrayal in Coop's mind. So sad and even after last night when both dogs fell asleep in his bed with him- his dream come true.  He is fine. Luckily, Tofie doesn't have enough teeth to really do much damage..

Then Coop sat down to draw some pictures and look what he did!  It is a ghost and a dark night.  Look the eyes and mouth are in the right place! So are the feet!  Woooohooo.  Another proud mama moment.

Months and months ago Coop was obsessed with Barack Obama's dog, Bo. Many of you remember this. He carried around the book, First Dog, and we had to read it every night. He would cry himself to sleep missing Bo (no, he never met him) and thinking that he was all alone in the White House.  So, being the good-teacher mom, we wrote a letter.  Here is what we wrote and a picture of Coop sleeping with the book:

So today we opened our mail and look what was there. A letter from Michelle Obama and a picture of Bo.  Cooper was thrilled and a honestly a bit confused. It was a long time ago. Hopefully this letter does not mean that we will be reading First Dog every night for the next few months...

Today was a really big day for Coop. First and this one is not so good, but Tofie bit his ear!  That was total and complete betrayal in Coop's mind. A Beautiful Summer, I Mean Winter Day

We met some new friends in the park this morning. The kids had a great time building "fairy houses," throwing leaves and digging in the dirt.  We moms had a great time talking about Australia and reminiscing about home.  At one point the other kids were telling us that they were heading to Singapore after their month in Sydney.  Coop put up his hands and said, "Wait! Hold it for a second! That is where my dad is!"  It was so cute!  And it was so cool that he finally has finally met an age-mate that knows what Singapore is!  Coop then suggested a trip to Starbucks (that's my boy!).  After finishing up our drinks, we went back to the park to find the possum that lives there.  Our friends called him, "Fuzzy Bums."  We did not get to see Fuzzy Bums, but I am sure we will try again soon.

 We came home and painted on the porch in the sunshine. I think Coop painted 10 pictures most of which were completely black.... :)  The dogs joined us on the porch to enjoy the sun as well.  

 Cooper decided to make "No Smoking" signs to hang all over the apartment. He is really bothered by all the smokers here. He says, "It is bad for the animals."  The other day he saw a pile of cigarette butts on the street and said, "Hey Mom, there are a bunch of orange things on the ground over there all together like a family."  Too funny.

And to top off the day, I baked a favorite of mine- Holland cookies.  I did it with conversions and everything! They were perfectly delicious!

I am so proud.
