Another Day at Tumbalong

The morning was so beautiful when we woke up that we packed up our "gear" and headed back to Tumbalong this time with Cooper as well.  Once there we slathered ourselves in sunscreen, the kids donned their sunnies and hats and then it was off to play.  This time the boys spent most of their time at the park in the sprinkler which makes sense as it was SO hot today. Actually it was only 82 degrees but we have had almost nothing but rain and cool weather for weeks now that this felt hot.   Below are some pictures of the boys enjoying the water.

Tucker took a break from the water to do a little digging in the sand.  

After playtime, we sat down in the "cafe" to cool off and have a drink. Tucker discovered, "Dora juice" and had to have it.  Coop chilled out with some apple juice. Oh, and Coop made a few phone calls... :)

Then it was back to the "dry part" of the playground, as Coop calls it, for some climbing. Let me just say that Tucker is a daredevil! Nothing scares him! He climbed right up this thing without a second thought. Wow.

After some climbing and some lunch, the boys rode the "Crazy Cars." This was Tucker's first ride like this! He loved it and so did Coop. Both boys had big smiles when the ride was over.

It was fun watching the harbour fill with boats throughout the day as people found a place to watch the big firework show.  The morning was rainy, but the afternoon and evening were perfect weather for a celebration.

Finally, at 9 pm, the fireworks began. As you all know, they are not the easiest thing to capture on film, but we did our best.  We were able to see fireworks in 5 different places from our balcony and one other place from the boys' bedrooms. What a sight! Cooper loved them! Tucker was a little unsure.  Overall, the boys enjoyed the evening and fell fast asleep the minute their heads hit the pillow.  Unfortunately, we were just as tired and were not able to stay awake for the midnight works which were probably even more amazing. Oh, well, next year, right?

New Year's Eve

Tonight's the night. New Year's Eve in Sydney. The big event.  The first place to ring in the new year and man, this city is getting ready. When Tuck and I were out at 7 this morning, there were tons of city workers cleaning, sweeping, emptying trash cans, putting more cans out-- everything you can imagine! There were tents being put up and people heading to the grounds where the fireworks will be held. They will spend the day there in anticipation of the big night.

As in any city, there are many, many celebrations going on tonight and fireworks all over the area. There are big parties at the Opera House, at various restaurants and clubs, at Circular Quay (the harbour), at the Botanic Gardens, on cruise ships and even at the zoo! There is a whole website dedicated to NYE in AU.  Some of these parties cost upwards of $500 dollars to attend and have been booked for months. And, this one got me- there is even a Miss New Year's Eve that is been selected each year.  Too funny.

We won't be attending any big parties. We are going to celebrate at home.  We are hoping that we will be able to see the fireworks in the harbour from our balcony. Doug ordered some new "patio" furniture that arrived yesterday so we can sit outside and watch. I am sure the people watching will be an event on its own. There is an expected million people to be in the city tonight.

Coop asked me what NYE is. I told him it is a celebration of the end of one year and the beginning of the next. He said, "So it is the year's birthday?"  And I said, "Exactly."
